THE EMBASSY

Iran Embassy And Consulate Design In Egypt

Advisor:Nariman Farahza

Embassy buildings are representing their original nation's identity in their destination lands, at the same time they should be in harmony and pleasant to their current context rather than being a  hostile guest.

A comprehensive researches on role of  symbolism in architecture led to discover the Karl Jung's  impressive idea of the archetype's role in collective unconsciousness of nations.

Therefore in this project , similar archetypes in the history of Iran and Egypt have been explored. Stepped pyramid ,like Djoser Pyramid in Egypt and Ziggurat Chogha zanbil in Iran are the most common existing Archetype from ancient era in both countries ,Courtyards and hierarchy of spaces have also been used in both ancient and Islamic periods of both Iran and Egypt while it also accommodates the common hot arid climate of these two countries .

Iranian Architecture has a history of metaphoric application of symbols ,like 40columns Palace in Esfahan which basically has 20 columns but they add up to their mirror image in the water and become 40.

The same metaphoric approach has been applied to this project in order not to merely imitate the literal archetypal image but the metaphoric reflection of it.Moreover the reverse stepped pyramid has passive architectural solution on cooling the building and the open area around it by creating shadows of each step on the previous one .

The columns that hold the steps are the reminiscent of ancient Persian palaces and Egyptian temples while they provide another metaphoric concept which is providing the structural system that can develop space as the political relationship between these two countries grows.

This concept emphasizes on a brighter prospect of future relationship between them that is the essense of Embassy architectural design. Here new bigger steps can always add up on top of the existing pyramid sitting on new rows of columns coming sraightly in to water.
